Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies

One of the best oatmeal cookies! Crisp outside and chewy inside. . .hmmmmm!

Preheat oven to 375°.

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Mix the above ingredients together thoroughly until smooth.

1 cup flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 1/2 cups quick oats

Stir in the dry ingredients until mixed thoroughly.

Form dough into 1 inch balls, spacing them about 3 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.
Flatten the balls with the bottom of a drinking glass that has first been dipped in melted butter and then dipped in sugar.
Bake for about 5 to 7 minutes (ovens vary) until lightly browned on the edges. Remove from baking sheet immediately.
Enjoy!

Heartland Creek Dog Treats

If you love your dog, try making these treats. Our dogs love them. No more manufactured treats for them!

This makes a large batch, you will probably want to reduce the amounts to make a smaller batch.

3 large skinless, boneless, cooked chicken breasts, (cut into chunks)
1 lb bag 'baby' carrots cooked
1 egg
2 cups cooked rice (not instant)
1/2 cup all natural unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup reduced fat milk
3 - 4 'dashes' garlic powder
3-4 tblspns brewer's yeast
1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese

Mix all ingredients except mozzarella cheese and rice in a food processor and grind to a slightly chunky texture. Pour into large mixing bowl, add rice and cheese. Mix thoroughly. If the mix seems too loose to hold together on a spoon, add small amounts of flour at a time to thicken.

Place rounded tablespoonfuls on a nonstick cookie sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart. Bake in 350° oven for about 11 minutes until firm and slightly browned on bottom.

Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator. Hint: Use larger spoonfuls for larger dogs and adjust baking time.
